AI at Kajabi versus AI at ZOOM (whoops!)
Aug 18, 2023I use Kajabi as the platform to operate the marketing and training of my businesses, so pay close attention to what they say and do.
It is like being a "Ford guy". You want to know what the company is up to and receive assurances that your brand choice for your business vehicle was correct, or "should I switch?"
On Friday, August 18, I had the privilege and honor to be on a group conference call with Vinay Mysoor, attorney at Kajabi in charge of Corporation Development, Legal, and Risk Management.
What a great experience, with insights into where they are now, where they're going, and a whole host of other topics.
Vinay presented Kajabi's position on the use of AI to help Kajabi account owners to create content, websites, and email copy.
AI is a hot topic (had you noticed??) with every company, even my local pizza joint, "Integrating AI".
Kajabi has added AI-backed assistance within their platform to help me create website pages, email messages (not this one - this is totally, 100% Rex-created), and even course lessons on generalized topics.
Here's what I learned:
1) At present, Kajabi is NOT using any of the content that I create or upload, video, text or otherwise to train their own AI model. The AI tools they offer now are all using OpenAI generalized AI system to generate the responses.
2) Kajabi does want to build a valuable AI tool for Kajabi account owners to help them to build content on Kajabi. In order to do that, they want to learn the best practices from those who are using Kajabi now. While ZOOM made headlines and too many social media posts about their heavy-handed stumble over use of ZOOM meeting content, it seems Kajabi is taking a much more owner-centric and owner-first approach.
This was encouraging to me. It is clear that they will eventually want to use my content to help other course creators and business owners to get the benefit of AI-generated assistance, and learn from the collective intelligence of everyone. And, they give me the option to "opt-out" of that process.
Personally, I think that the concepts I learned in law school over 30 years ago about Intellectual Property are going to be tossed or become unenforceable in light of Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models. That is, everything I ever create or could historically claim to be my Intellectual Property will eventually all be "out there" in the cloud and accessible to feed the systems powering the current AI systems. The AI system are, after all, just the most popular (statistically) answers to similar questions in similar contexts.
Tracking and protecting my Intellectual Property back when it existed ONLY in the form of a printed book (with a copyright symbol and and ISBN number) was easier to prove and enforce in court.
Now, when my answers to common questions are mixed in with hundreds or thousands of similar answers to similar questions in similar contexts to generate a combined, human-readable answer, it becomes impossible to trace or argue that "those 4 words, appearing in exactly that order, are MINE!". Plagiarism, except in cases of a word-for-word copy at the paragraph level, will become unenforceable.
We do all stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, in terms of both information and ideas.
I think that my value in these days is not "knowing" more than the other person, but in the authentic and unique way that I can combine, synthesize, and present certain information that others find valuable. That value may be form the insights, unique viewpoints, or combination of the connections.
And I realize that I am competing against AI-generated content that exhibits similar abilities, which has surprised us all since November of 2022.
Here's my latest thoughts for the business model evolution: Instead of selling the course explaining "How to" do something specific, give that training material away for free to anyone who wants to pick it up and do it themselves. And for those few individuals who want to work with me directly to help them implement it, whether to handle their specific circumstance with my guidance, or to just get it done in half the time, then that comes at a fee.
I would love to hear your thoughts on my thoughts. Click REPLY to this email and let me know.
