AI Autonomous Agents

perspective Oct 07, 2023

I've previously mentioned the obvious that every software system out there is adding AI to its list of functions you can use while in the system.

Just click the pretty icon and have AI help you get started, review what you've done, do it for you, or do it faster.  Keep playing with that, in whatever systems are your daily favorites, because this will save you time as you learn to leverage the capability.

I'm still watching the AI wave grow in height (ability of the AI systems), complexity (breadth - the functions they're doing, like video, image, and creating computer code), and scope (us Cali surfers know waves always come in a set, not just as a single wave, with subsequent waves bigger than the initial one).  While not staring at it from the safety of the beach, I am struggling to find the right point on the face of this wave to turn my surf board toward the beach and start paddling in order to 'catch it'.

But that is my business - to figure this AI stuff out, and turn my amazement and obsession with learning into a revenue generating business, providing value.

For a peek into this and the next quarter, I'm excited about AI Agents, whether autonomous or not.

While we've all benefited from learning to feed great prompts to ChatGPT, the next iteration is building customized AI Agents or in some cases, a network of inter-connected AI Agents, mirroring the value of having multiple people work as a team on a specific goal.  Some of these already exist if you go searching, but even these first versions are limited compared to what is being discussed over the past 2 weeks.

For example, you would have access to an AI Lawyer Agent, who could carry out basic legal functions (giving advice, drafting basic documents, evaluating potential lawsuits or defenses) instead of engaging a lawyer or paralegal.  Likewise for an AI Accountant Agent, AI Nurse Agent, AI Nutritionist Agent.

Exempt from this are all the services that require hands-on to perform:  hair stylists, nail techs, chiropractors, massage therapists, etc.

Autonomous AI Agents are those systems that are just always running in the background, helping you with whatever their individual task or goal would be.  That is, they would be "doing their thing" without the need for you to send a text prompt to ChatGPT.  This also refers to a collection of AI Agents that will, on their own, figure out how to solve the problem you describe, and iteratively test, re-do, and refine the result.

We live in interesting times.  If you have a question or response let me know, or just to say hi.

Talk soon,
